FX Canada finally makes it to all of Manitoba

NEARLY a year after it launched in other parts of Canada, the FX Canada specialty network will now be widely distributed in Manitoba.

The Rogers-owned channel, which carries programming from U.S. cable’s FX network, was introduced on Oct. 31, but its owners were unable to negotiate a carriage agreement with Shaw, the cable provider for most homes in Winnipeg. Rogers announced Thursday that FX Canada will be carried on Shaw services beginning immediately.

MTS TV has carried FX Canada since last year.

The channel’s roster of shows includes such prime-time titles as American Horror Story, which begins its second season on Wednesday, Louie, The League and Wilfred, as well as late-night offerings Brand X with Russell Brand and Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell.

However, first-run episodes of some FX-produced series, including Sons of Anarchy and Justified, do not air on FX Canada because of pre-existing rights agreements with other Canadian specialty channels. The new Charlie Sheen sitcom Anger Management airs on FX in the U.S., but its Canadian rights were acquired by CTV.

FX Canada will be introduced by Shaw Cable in standard definition on Channel 156, and in high definition on Channel 267.

On Shaw Direct, FX Canada will be offered on channels 334 (advanced) and 251 (classic).
