OK, Colbert: Radiohead plays Report
RADIOHEAD didn't kill the TV star. They're appearing with a TV star, instead.
In what's being billed as TV history -- Stephen Colbert's idea of TV history, anyway -- the British alt-rock band behind such Grammy-winning albums as In Rainbows, Kid A and OK Computer, will headline an expanded hour-long edition of the Emmy-nominated The Colbert Report tonight at the program's usual time, following Jon Stewart's Daily Show.
It's the first time The Colbert Report has expanded to a full hour since the show's debut on Oct. 17, 2005.
Radiohead is slated to perform singles from its most recent album, The King of Limbs, including a previously unreleased track, The Daily Mail.
True to form, Colbert issued a statement saying, "I look forward to meeting the Radioheads and leveraging their anti-corporate cred to raise brand awareness for my sponsors."
This, from a late-night talk-show host who once famously asked Paul McCartney, during the only TV interview Sir Paul granted during a cross-U.S. tour at the time: "You were in a band called... The Beatles? What was your thing?"
The Colbert Nation is waiting with bated breath to see what havoc Colbert will wreak on Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Colin Greenwood and Phil Selway.
Radiohead fans, meanwhile, are just cringing in nervous anticipation.
