A Winnipeg women who went to Los Angeles to visit friends last month ended up spending some quality time with Drew Carey after accepting one of the most famous come-ons in TV history.

"Theresa Kuzina, come on down! You're the next contestant on The Price Is Right."

According to Kuzina's boyfriend, the pair had gone to the CBS studios on April 11 expecting to see a taping of the iconic game show, so the call to contestants row came as something of a surprise.

"We both freaked out," Kelly Leschasin, 34, recalls. "I kept saying, 'omigod, omigod, omigod.'"

Kuzina, 35, one of eight contestants chosen from the 320 hopefuls in the studio audience, didn't win the coveted Showcase Showdown but she did price-match her way to a major prize -- which she can't disclose until after the episode airs. That happens today at 10 a.m. on CBS.

Apparently getting tickets to the show is a breeze (Leschasin ordered them online a month in advance) while actually making it into the studio is a three-hour process that involves standing in line, filling out forms and being interviewed by a casting agent who decides if you've got a Price Is Right personality.

"I think what they're looking for is somebody who is excitable but not insane," says Leschasin. "Someone who's just cheery and kind of fun. That's definitely Theresa."

In early April, another Manitoban did win the Showcase Showdown valued at US$52,000. According to news reports, Don Perrin, a Falcon Lake resident, settled for an undisclosed amount of cash instead.
