Artists offer 'performative tours' of historic Dalnavert Museum

What happens when you mix the writings of Charles Dickens with the real-life history of Winnipeg’s Dalnavert Museum, the restored Victorian mansion that belonged to Sir Hugh John Macdonald?
You get a fanciful tour/performance called Dalnavert Copperfield, one of many events being held around the world this year to mark the 200th anniversary of Dickens’ birth.
Theatre artist Ian Mozdzen and visual artist Doug Melnyk, who previously teamed up on the 2011 fringe festival show Monopoly Man Pit, have been in residence at Dalnavert since February.
With funding from the Winnipeg Arts Council, they’re cooking up the interactive "performative house tour" for a maximum of 10 people per night.
Audience members will follow "Dalnavert Copperfield" and his friend through the furnished 1895 house. The show is described as a "wild and entertaining spectacle peppered with satire, history and the Dickensian imagination."
It takes place at 61 Carlton St. on four weekends: Sept. 14-16, 21-23, 28-30, and Oct. 5-7 at 7 p.m. (doors open 6:30 p.m.). Tickets are $15 and can be reserved at 204-943-2835.
