CMHR gets original piece by local youth artist
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) have a new piece of artwork decorating their office.
Partnered with the Michaëlle Jean Foundation, the CMHR have acquired an original piece by local Aboriginal youth artist Jessica Canard.
"This announcement marks the museum's commitment to profiling local artwork that has a social consciousness," said Stuart Murray, CEO of the CMHR at the announcement held today at the museum's office.
The piece, a door decorated in Winnipeg's metallic cityscape, will hang in the CMHR offices until the museum opens.
Murray said the CMHR's goal is still to open in 2014.
Jessica Canard first met the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean when she was 27th Governor General of Canada.
Jean held a forum for youth at the Graffiti Gallery and Canard was a student there.
Canard, who is a business student at The University of Winnipeg, is currently working on a mosaic tile for the Michaëlle Jean Park in North Point Douglas.
