Can't make it to New York's Carnegie Hall to see the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra's performance on Thursday? You can still hear it online, and follow along as people tweet with the trip's sanctioned hashtag, #WSONYC.
The Spring for Music festival’s media partner, WQXR Radio in New York is broadcasting the performance live on its website, starting at 6:30 p.m. It also be available through the WSO’s mobile app, WSO To Go.
The program features three works: Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer's Symphony No. 1; Derek Charke's Thirteen Inuit Throat Song Games, featuring acclaimed Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq; and WSO composer-in-residence Vincent Ho's The Shaman: Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra, showcasing Scottish virtuoso percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie, who also gave the piece's world première during the WSO's 2011 New Music Festival.
During the intermission, the live audio stream will have interviews with Gary Doer, Canada’s ambassador to the United States and the honorary chair for the New York appearance, as well as composer R. Murray Schafer and orchestra performers, the WSO says.
