Local filmmakers shoot modern retelling of fairy-tale classic
A new Winnipeg-based, female-driven production company has started shooting its first film.
Red Czarina, founded by Danishka Esterhazy, Rebecca Gibson, Ashley Hirt and Rebecca Sandulak last May, has begun work on H&G, a modern retelling of a classic fairy tale – think Hansel and Gretel with a dark, "neorealistic twist."
"This film is an absolute labour of love," producer Hirt said in a release. "We only have a budget of $5,000, but we have a surplus of talent with our all-Winnipeg cast and crew."
H&G will star Winnipeg actors Ashley Rebecca Moore, Tony Porteous and Ferron Guerreiro.
The shoot is expected to wrap Sept. 2.
