The Free Press has focused on the written word for nearly 150 years but the emphasis will shift to the spoken word on Friday afternoon when Vancouver-based RC Weslowski, who is performing this week at the inaugural Winnipeg Spoken Word Festival, will come by the Free Press News Café at 2:30 p.m. for an interview and performance.
He’ll be joined by Aaron Simm, the festival’s artistic director.
Spoken word is art performed out loud. It can encompass performance and competitive slam poetry but it’s also storytelling, music with lyrics, and other forms of poetry.
The festival kicked off on Wednesday and runs through to Saturday at the Gas Station Arts Centre.
