Sam Beam, the American singer-songwriter known as Iron and Wine, performs at the 2012 Winnipeg Folk Festival main stage.

Soulful indie folksinger Sam Beam, better known by his stage name, Iron and Wine, will play Winnipeg in September.

The South Carolina-born musician, who took his name from a dietary supplement (Beef, Iron and Wine) he saw on the shelf of a Georgia store, will perform at Pantages Playhouse Theatre on Thursday, Sept. 19. Tickets are $35 and $25 and go on sale May 17 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.

Beam is touring in support of his fifth release, Ghost on Ghost, the followup to 2011’s Kiss Each Other Clean. Of the latter album, Rolling Stone magazine said, "pop music hadn’t seen anything like it since the heyday of Cat Stevens."

A special pre-order will be announced soon at www.ironandwine.com, according to a release.

Iron and Wine played the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 2012.
