Sexsmith, Skydiggers tours will hit town

Sexsmith playing at Burton Cummings
Last year, he sold out the Westminster United Church. This time, Toronto singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith returns to Winnipeg with a brand-new album, Forever Endeavour.
The famously self-deprecating musician plays the Burton Cummings Theatre on Saturday, March 23. He’ll be joined by Cape Breton duo Madison Violet.
Tickets are $32 (plus agency fees) and available at jazzwinnipeg.com, by phone at 204-989-4656 or in person at the Jazz Winnipeg office (007-100 Arthur St.) or at the West End Cultural Centre, or through Ticketmaster.

Get ready to tap the toes right off your boots. The West End Cultural Centre is holding a pick-athon.
Pickin’ on the Prairies, Feb. 22 and 23, is a two-day, bluegrass/old-time music showcase featuring homegrown banjo, fiddle and harmonica talent. The lineup includes songwriter/guitarist Emma Cloney, violinist Patti Lamoureux and Ashes (ex-members of the D.Rangers), along with up-and-comers Eagle Lake Owls and Yes We Mystic.
Doors open at 7:15 both days. Show starts at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $13 in advance, $18 at the door and $10 if attending both days and available at West End Cultural Centre, Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store and Music Trader (97 Osborne St.).
Skydiggers tour stops here in May
Toronto roots-rockers Skydiggers will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a cross-country tour that will include a May 11 concert at the West End Cultural Centre.
The milestone will also be marked by four recordings to be released each season in 2013.
It launches with All of our Dreaming: Skydiggers Live, 1988, 2000 & 2012, three discs featuring performances captured live 12 years apart. They will be followed by a DVD of the 2012 concert, Skydiggers Live at The Glenn Gould Theatre.
Ticket information for the Winnipeg date has yet to be announced.
