Social-media website targets comedians
Why did the comedian cross the information superhighway? To get a presence on social media, of course.
A Vancouver-based comedy club owner was pitching comedians in town for last week’s Winnipeg Comedy Festival to join mycomedybook.com, a just-launched social media website specifically geared for professional joke tellers.
"We were shocked that there was nothing out there for comedians. Actors have imdb.com musicians have myspace.com, but there isn’t a centralized database for comedians," said Chris Hall, owner of the Sin Bin in Vancouver.
The site allows comedians to create their own profiles, upload photos and videos and post their shows by region. It’s different from Facebook, which only lets comedians to market to their same group of friends, he said.
"This is a tool where people who are looking for a comedy show can find out about a comedy show. Some comics that do the major rooms are also playing at smaller clubs during the week, where people can go and see them for $5," Hall said.
