SondheimFest passes on sale from RMTC

Passes for SondheimFest, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centres’ 13th annual master playwright festival, are now on sale.

The festival honouring legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, runs Jan. 16 to Feb. 3, 2013.

The eight-time Tony Award winner, credited for bringing musical theatre into the modern world, is the creative genius behind such Broadway staples as West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Assassins, featuring its chorus line of killers.

"Sondheim has changed the course of theatre history, tearing the musical away from its roots in romantic comedy," RMTC artistic director Steven Schipper said in a release. "This year’s festival will celebrate his artistic impact on our city and the world."

For $80, SondheimFest goers can experience 11 Sondheim productions. To purchase a pass, call the RMTC box office at 204-942-6537 (toll-free at 1-877-446-4500) or visit www.masterplaywrightfest.com.
