WAG showcases photography of Lynne Cohen

Winnipeggers have spent plenty of time indoors this long and chilly winter. So perhaps a new Winnipeg Art Gallery exhibition of Lynne Cohen’s interior photographs might be a perfect match.

Lynne Cohen: Between Something and Nothing, the latest exhibition partnership between the WAG and the National Gallery of Canada, opens with a members-only preview on April 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., before opening to the public on April 12.

The exhibition will display a retrospective of the Montreal-based photographer’s work. Cohen specializes in interior "readymade" spaces, photographs that include living rooms, retirement homes, laboratories, offices and factories. The exhibition will include 21 works borrowed from the National Gallery as well as pieces from the WAG’s collection.

"While these pictures may come across cold and dark at first, there are seductive and humoristic qualities to them that are difficult to resist," Paul Butler, WAG’s curator of contemporary art, says in a news release.
