Ascent of the Women author keynote speaker at gala

Sally Armstrong, author of Ascent of the Women, will be the keynote speaker at a gala presented by the Institute for International Women's Rights -- Manitoba on Friday at 7 p.m., at the Viscount Gort Hotel.

Local to Global 2014: A New Age is Dawning for Every Mother's Daughter will also feature Winnipeg's Katherena Vermette, the recent recipient of the Governor General's Award for Poetry, as well as local pop duo Keith and Renée.

Tickets are $35 ($25 for students) and are available at McNally Robinson Booksellers; Manitoba Status of Women Office (409-401 York St.); the University of Manitoba (Zulifya Tursunova at 204-474 8935); University of Winnipeg (Global College Info Desk), or by contacting hilarytaylor213@gmail.com.
