Bajon moves to MTYP year after leaving RMTC
LESS than a year after retiring as the longtime general manager of Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Zaz Bajon has been appointed executive director of Manitoba Theatre for Young People.
Bajon left RMTC after 30 years of helping to establish the regional theatre as one of the most financially stable and best run arts organizations in the country. Starting June 1, he will be expected to bring that fiscal acumen to MTYP. He is succeeding Denise Lysak, who has resigned to join Vancouver's Presentation House Theatre as general manager.

"I started in a children's theatre and figure I will end in a children's theatre," Bajon said Thursday during an interview. "Leslee called me and said, 'We need you.' That's how it all started. I miss work. I'm happy to be back."
Bajon, who has steadfastly refused to divulge his age, tied with painter/educator Diane Whitehouse for the $2,500 Making a Difference award at the Mayor's Luncheon for the Arts last June.
"It's a natural fit for us," MTYP artistic director Leslee Silverman said Thursday. "He can be of tremendous assistance to us, especially with the grown-up things we lack, like endowment funds."
