Comedians at Free Press Café

  • Print

It's comedy fest time in Winnipeg and once again the Free Press News Café is offering you a chance to get up and personal with some of Canada's finest funny people. Free Press entertainment writer Brad Oswald will host these entertaining and interactive interviews.

Today, noon -- Dave Hemstad

A three-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee, Hemstad has performed in every province and territory and is a regular guest on CBC Radio's The Debaters. He's one of the funniest comics in Canada.

Thursday, noon -- Derek Edwards

Long considered one of Canada's top standup comedians, the second most famous entertainer from Timmins, Ont., is a favourite of Winnipeg comedy fans. Ask any Canuck standup to name the best in this country's comedy biz, and Edwards' name is always at the top of the list.

Friday, 10 a.m. -- Tom Cavanagh

Ottawa-born actor Cavanagh can do serious (as in the shot-in-Winnipeg mini-series The Capture of the Green River Killer) and he can do funny (he starred for four seasons in the popular NBC series Ed). At this year's comedy festival, it's all about the laughs when he hosts the Friday Late Gala, The Future.
