Contemporary Dancers tribute to honour Browne

WINNIPEG'S Contemporary Dancers will host a gala tribute to its late founder Rachel Browne next January.

Toward Light -- scheduled for Jan. 8 and 9 at the Shaw Performing Arts Centre -- will celebrate the trailblazing life of this Canadian modern dance icon with 21 dancers remounting nine of her signature works. The program will be repeated in Toronto Jan. 12th and in Vancouver Jan. 15th.

The Winnipeg gala is set for Jan. 8, with proceeds going to the Rachel Browne Trust, which was created to preserve and disseminate her works. Browne, 77, died suddenly in June while in Ottawa.
