Detroit Institute of Arts opens display of Picasso, Matisse

DETROIT - The Detroit Institute of Arts this week opens a display of nearly all of the works in its collection by Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.
"Picasso and Matisse: The DIA's Prints and Drawings" opens Wednesday and runs through Jan. 6. It's free with museum admission.
The exhibition will explore the stylistic progression and artistic range of Picasso and Matisse with more than 100 prints and drawings. That includes noted works such as Matisse's 1919 drawing "The Plumed Hat" and Picasso's 1939 work "The Bather by the Sea."
Also Wednesday, the museum opens "Puppets of American Dance," which includes examples of American dance marionettes from its Paul McPharlin Puppetry Collection. That exhibition of elaborate, large-scale marionettes runs through Jan. 16.
