Friends to celebrate life of 'Mr. Rainbow Stage'

THERE will be a celebration on Friday of the life of Vic Pinchin, a longtime Rainbow stage performer and board member who died recently.

"He was certainly Mr. Rainbow Stage," said Campbell McIntyre, board member of the summer theatre located in Kildonan Park. "He started with us in 1962 and was in continuous service since then in some kind of shape or form. It's another tough loss for the Rainbow Stage group."

The 93-year-old Pinchin, who was one of the original members of the theatre's Wall of Fame, worked as public address announcer right up to some performances of Rainbow's season-opener Footloose, but entered hospital recently and died June 29.

Pinchin, a decades-long patron of most performing arts in the city, performed in 19 Rainbow productions and was one of three former board presidents who rescued the organization in 1993 when it faced closure.

"He was synonymous with everything we've done," said McIntyre.

Pinchin's life will be honoured at Lion's Place, 610 Portage Ave., on Friday at 2 p.m.
