Local artist making noise in California

WINNIPEG artist Ken Gregory has an installation piece being displayed in San Jose, Calif., next month.

Gregory's kinetic sound sculpture wind coil sound flow will be at the San Jose City Hall rotunda as part of the city's Build Your Own World art festival and exhibition Sept. 16-19.

Gregory, who is also participating in other aspects of the festival, calls the piece a "scaled-up" version of the sculpture that was first exhibited in October 2009 at the University of Winnipeg's Gallery 1C03.

The festival, run by San Jose's Zero1 organization, is devoted to encouraging creativity "at the intersection of art and technology."

A senior Winnipeg artist who has been working with audio, video, installation and computer programming for over 15 years, Gregory has exhibited at numerous Canadian and American galleries.

Most recently he has been involved in the Boreality Project, a collaboration between Prairie Fire Press and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.
