Two Winnipeg artists, Neil Farber and Michael Dumontier, are the Prairie nominees for the Sobey Art Award.
Farber and Dumontier were founding members of the Royal Art Lodge, and have continued to collaborate since the art co-operative disbanded in 2008. Their art has appeared in galleries across North America and Europe.
The Sobey award, the pre-eminent honour for contemporary Canadian art, comes with a $50,000 cash prize, while the nominees each receive $10,000.
An exhibit of the shortlisted artists will open on Nov. 1 at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, with the winner being named at a gala on Nov. 19.
Paul Butler, the curator of contemporary art at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, is one of the five judges on the curatorial panel.
