MANOHAR Performing Arts, the Winnipeg dance company that focuses on 2,000-year traditions from southern India as well as styles from northern India, England, Malaysia and Australia, celebrates its 20th anniversary Saturday night with its 20th full-length production.
20/20 AfterImages, which takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Pantages Playhouse Theatre, is billed as a multimedia celebration of Indian dance in Winnipeg.
Manohar, which means "to capture the mind" in Sanskrit, began in 1993 as an independent, non-profit group of dancers, choreographers and artists. Besides their own productions, Manohar dancers have performed at Folklorama, the Hindu Society's annual Diwali events, participated in a combined performance with First Nations performers and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra during the WSO's New Music Festival and toured throughout Canada and India, including on the grounds of the Taj Mahal.
