LOREENA McKennitt, the Morden-born soprano, will perform her Celtic repertoire when she returns to the Centennial Concert Hall on Aug. 9, the Winnipeg Folk Festival announced Thursday.
Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. at all Ticketmaster outlets. Advance tickets are $65 and $50, plus fees.
McKennitt, who released her first record in 1985, is touted as one of the world's most successful independent artists due to retaining control of her music and her record label. She has sold 14 million records, has written film and television scores and created three concert DVDs. Her records have reflected both her adventures around the world, and her ongoing search for the roots of Celtic music.
In February, the Order of Canada member was up for a Grammy Award in the new age album category for her live recording Troubadours on The Rhine.
In addition, she received the folk festival's Artistic Achievement Award in 2004 and is the artistic chair of the festival's Staging the Future capital campaign.
