THE Royal Winnipeg Ballet's hit production of Moulin Rouge -- The Ballet will make a jet© to the silver screen as Winnipeg producers Paquin Entertainment and Les Productions Rivard prepare to film the ballet beginning Thursday at the Centennial Concert Hall.
The movie, shot in high definition and digital surround sound, is expected to premi®re early next year in Cineplex theatres under the banner of their Front Row Centre Events.
The ballet, which premi®red in 2009, is set in the early 1900s in Paris, where a pair of star-crossed lovers seek their destiny at the titular Paris cabaret. It was choreographed by former RWB principal dancer Jorden Morris.
The film version is expected to extend the audience of 110,000 who have already seen the ballet performed live in 35 cities across North America.
Producers Gilles and Louis Paquin hired Grammy- and Emmy-winning directors Pierre and Franßois Lamoureux of Cinemusica (Zappa Plays Zappa) for the project.
"Moulin Rouge -- The Ballet has been one of our greatest successes as a company and we hope that the release of this film will continue to move people in the way the live performance continues to do wherever we tour," said RWB's artistic director Andr© Lewis.
