YOU'D be hard-pressed to find a band better than Arcade Fire at building a buzz. Starting with a street-level viral campaign that culminated in the release of the album's first single, Reflektor, the group has been engaged in a multi-level marketing campaign for the past couple of months. After performing on the season première of Saturday Night Live, the Montreal art rock act aired a 20-minute concert special directed by Roman Coppola. Decked out in flashy, matching outfits, the group performed new songs Here Comes the Night Time, We Exist and Normal Person, which were interspersed with bizarre prerecorded segments that included stars such as Bono, Michael Cera, Zach Galifianakis and others.
Reflektor, the group's fourth album, will be released by Merge Records on Oct. 29.
ANYONE who has bought a house or looked for an apartment in the last few years knows how important first impressions on the web are. Despite the fact that online listings are driving potential sales or renters to the property, some real estate agents haven't figured out how to take a good picture that really shows off the features of the listing. Judging by some of the pics on this new crowdsourced Tumblr site, they don't even understand the basics of what makes a property appealing. Out-of-focus pictures, poorly cropped images that don't do the listing any justice, pictures of rooms full of junk or dark and dreary shots of basements, Terrible Real Estate Agent Photos has it all.
THE final couple episodes of AMC's hit show Breaking Bad were pretty intense, so this simple, yet addictive 2D Flash game may just be the distraction you need after the finale of the show last weekend. Made by fans for fans, the game is full of little details and references to the show and is a fun way to take your mind off the fact that the critically acclaimed show is over.
ANCHORED with a Bob Weston-style bass line, rugged drums, high-octane guitars and multi-tracked vocals, the first single from the Greg MacPherson Band's new album is a slight stylistic shift from the Prairie songwriter. While the group has hinted at this sound before, it is exciting to hear them let loose. Hopefully the new album has more of this to come.
SEBADOH/DINOSAUR Jr member Lou Barlow has launched his own YouTube channel with a couple of intimate acoustic covers: Ryan Adam's Two and Lucinda Williams' Side of the Road. While the clips may be shot on an iPhone, the two videos show Barlow in his stripped-down glory.
