PSY & MC Hammer perform Gangnam Style
If you skipped the American Music Awards last weekend (most people did) and you aren't one of the 700 million people who have streamed PSY's Gangnam Style video, you can see the South Korean rapper, dancer and Internet phenom take the stage with MC Hammer to perform his No. 1 hit single, Gangnam Style. This pop culture moment almost exploded the Internet, even if hardly anyone was watching the show live. Mortifying Memories
In the fine documentary The Girls in the Band (playing Nov. 23 at Cinematheque) director Judy Chaikin
chose a particularly embarrassing clip of a Winnipeg TV interview between Germaine Greer and the late Joe Borowski, a former Manitoba cabinet minister, to illustrate how the women's movement met with stiff
resistance from a certain breed of male establishment dinosaurs.

After easing through the transition from gravel-voiced rocker to gravel-voiced standards-songbook crooner,
it was probably only a matter of time before Rod Stewart turned his attention to festive-season musical merriment. His first holiday special, Rod Stewart: Merry Christmas, Baby, airs on PBS this week (Tuesday at
7 p.m., Prairie Public TV) and features guest performances by Michael Bublé, Cee-Lo Green, Mary J. Blige and
Ella Fitzgerald.

Her big fat Greek adoption
Winnipeg's favourite actress-writer, Nia Vardalos (of My Big Fat Greek Wedding fame), is entering the memoir sweepstakes. In April, HarperCollins will release Vardalos's first book, Instant Mom: I Thought I Knew Love, and Then I Met My Daughter. The tome will trace Vardalos and her husband's path from infertility clinics to adopting a preschooler in 2008. She blogged on the subject at the time for The Huffington Post, so there is likely to be some environmentally friendly recycling.

Law and order
Tough Case is a timely drama that looks at restorative justice through the case of a 16-year-old who vandalizes the home of an elderly widow. The Manitoba Theatre for Young People touring production, which will be seen by over 20,000 students during a six-week provincial tour, challenges existing assumptions about justice and retribution in the hopes of building peace within communities. The only two public performances are Nov. 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Shaw Centre for Performing Arts.
