ANTHONY AUGUSTINE / WEB

You Should Have Seen This in 2012

Memes move faster than lightning these days. You may have heard about Psy and his one billion views on YouTube, but there was so much more happening this year on the web, it can be tough to keep up. Some viral videos and web memes are here today, gone tomorrow, but some have a bit of staying power. From tributes to the Beastie Boys' Sabotage made by a bunch of kids, to real actors reading YELP reviews to Mitt Romney's "Binders Full of Women," here are 64 important things that happened on the Internet in 2012: www.youshouldhaveseenthis2012.com

RANDALL KING Ñ MOVIES

Horror, Abbreviated

It remains to be seen if the 3D movie Texas Chainsaw can live up to Tobe Hooper's landmark original from 1974. But you've got to wonder about how it strips down the original title, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Are they being sensitive about the word massacre? Or is this really just a doc on the chainsaw industry in the Lone Star state?

BRAD OSWALD Ñ TV

Shaun Majumder gets serious about eco-tourism

Lots of people will tell you there's no place like home, but Canuck actor/comedian Shaun Majumder (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Detroit 1-8-7) decided to put his money where his mouth is (and his house was). The new W network series Majumder Manor (Monday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m.) follows the Newfoundland-born performer as he attempts to build an eco-friendly inn in his hometown of Burlington (pop. 360).

MORLEY WALKER / MOVIES

No wonder they gave her a TV series

Fans of Lena Dunham's hot new HBO show, Girls, should check out her 2010 debut feature, Tiny Furniture, which puts an earlier spin on her young urban feminist preoccupations. Starring alongside a few of the same cast members, as well as her real-life mother and sister, Dunham shows more talent and self-assurance than most writer-directors twice her age.

KEVIN PROKOSH / THEATRE

The movie in his mind

Midas musical-maker Cameron Mackintosh has vowed that if the star-studded movie version of Les Misérables does $500 million at the box office, then he will bring Miss Saigon to the big screen next. Since its Christmas Day opening, Les Miz has grossed over $100 million worldwide, making it the biggest opening ever in movie musical history. Mackintosh has already told friends that the story of the ill-fated romance between a bar girl and an American soldier in the last days of the Vietnam War will be shot in Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia.
