The Bruins' No. 4 to break his silence

Penguin Canada clearly waited until the NHL lockout was settled to issue a news release about its forthcoming Bobby Orr autobiography. The legendary Boston Bruins defenceman's long-sought-after memoir, Orr: My Story, is slated for release Oct. 15, the company has announced.

Compressorhead -- Ace of Spades

In advance of a performance at Australia's Big Day Out Festival, this sneak peek of the "world's heaviest metal band," Compressorhead, ripping through Motrhead's classic Ace of Spades has already racked up nearly two million views since it was uploaded on Jan. 3. While Ace of Spades is covered a lot, this is the first time the song has been performed entirely by robots, including a four-armed drummer called Stickboy. Bigger really was better

As Joni Mitchell observed: You don't know what you've got till it's gone. At least you do have 21Ñ2 months till Winnipeg's largest movie screen at Portage Place IMAX fades out. It's substantially bigger than the one at Polo Park and it is currently the only venue that shows those impressive documentaries. OK, if you need a Hollywood-type movie, it's also showing Skyfall. The clock is now ticking until March 31, when it closes its doors for good. You'll be missed, big guy.

Idol No More

There will be a new look, a new vibe and a very much adjusted attitude when American Idol returns to prime time (Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. on Fox and CTV). Randy Jackson is the lone veteran at the show's judges' table, after the departure at last season's end of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Filling out the new campaign's four-person panel are Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj. The Aussie country star is sure to be laid back, so only one question looms: Will doubling the diva quotient mean twice as much fun, or power-of-two problems?

A mighty wind

Can fans of Margaret Mitchell's beloved novel Gone With the Wind and the celebrated movie version -- featuring matchless performances by Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable -- fall in love all over again with Niki Landau's new stage adaptation? Winnipeggers will be the first to find out Jan. 10 when the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre presents what no other North American company has ever attempted before -- a world première of Gone With the Wind.
