BRAD OSWALD / TV

Ah, springtime -- when the TV networks' thoughts turn to fall

After a winter that lasted far too long, most folks have turned their attention to enjoying the transition from spring into summer. But those who follow the goings-on in the TV industry know that the focus of actors, producers and network executives his week will be solely on autumn, and the prime-time schedule for the 2013-14 season. At their annual upfront advertising sales presentations in New York, America's TV networks will unveil their fall lineups -- NBC and Fox on May 13, ABC on May 14, CBS on May 15 and the CW on May 16. Who's in, who's out, what's new and which old favourites are coming back will all be revealed in one big ad-sales frenzy in the Big Apple.

RANDALL KING / MOVIES

Whose lie is it anyway?

Say, the title The Good Lie sounds familiar. Isn't that the movie Reese "Don't you know who I am?" Witherspoon was shooting when she was recently arrested, playing an American woman helping Sudanese refugees adjust to life in America? Yep, but it's also the name of a different movie by Winnipeg filmmaker Shawn Linden, opening this week at the Globe, about a young college student (Thomas Dekker) who discovers he is the biological product of a brutal rape. The Manitoba Classification Board says to expect gory scenes and coarse language. Just don't expect Reese Witherspoon.

JILL WILSON / WEB

Corny but cute

On March 23, 2013, Adam Patch's wife drank a bottle of wine and told him a silly joke about taco chips. He recorded it on his phone and animated it, keeping her adorably slurred narration. The result is both inexplicably hilarious and totally sweet. And who knew that tacos bleed queso sauce? See it at http://wfp.to/52o

KEVIN PROKOSH / ARTS
