The movie musical Grease begins on a beach and has a romantic climax at a drive-in theatre. So in a way, it's a movie that was meant to be seen at a venue that combines both the beach and an outdoor screen. Watch it in karaoke sing-along mode July 27 at 10 p.m. on the Gimli beach as one of the climactic events of the Gimli Film Festival. Admission is free.

New series gets a Bang! out of star's comedy musings
At the same time it pokes fun at the talk-show genre's peculiar qualities, the new Comedy network series Comedy Bang! Bang! (which has its late-night premiere on Friday, July 26) also embraces the concept of celebrity chatter. In the opener of the series, which grew out of a comedy-nerd podcast and was picked up by U.S. cable's IFC, host Scott Aukerman asks one of comedy's current hot commodities, Zach Galifianakis, to assess where he ranks on the list of all-time funny-film greats.

Toronto novelist David Gilmour, the former CBC-TV arts journalist known mostly for his tales of sexually wayward males, wades into the assisted-suicide debate with his new title, Extraordinary. Due for release in mid-August, it is narrated by a middle-aged man who agrees to help his paralyzed elder sister cash in her chips.
