AMANDA GREEN, 28
Principal dancer, Royal Winnipeg Ballet
Accomplishments: Green was just 10 years old when she moved to Winnipeg and officially made the grand jeté (big jump) into her ballet career. She and her older sister lived in the RWB residence, where they trained daily in dance. Now, 18 years later, Green is the RWB principal dancer, a result of her deep dedication to ballet and a warrior spirit. She left Winnipeg briefly to study at the Harid Conservatory in Florida, but returned in 2004 to become an apprentice with the RWB. With the status of principal, Green trains/practises/rehearses for up to eight hours a day. Her current role is a challenging and somewhat groundbreaking one, as she will be Offred in the RWB performance of the adaptation of Margaret Atwood's novel, The Handmaid's Tale (choreography by Lila York), from Oct. 16-20 at the Winnipeg Concert Hall. Green doesn't have a favourite role yet, but has a dream one on the horizon. She will perform the role of Juliet in the RWB production Feb. 12-16, 2014, of Romeo and Juliet.
1. Favourite workout?
I really enjoy swimming and would categorize that as my favourite workout. I also love to bike! My fiancé and I bike to work every day -- until the harsh winter comes. My job as a dancer ensures that I have plenty of exercise throughout the day. As far as working out in the gym, sometimes I love to just lose myself in random music on the elliptical, but the best workouts are with my two favourite trainers, Richard and Lindsay!
2. Favourite workout song?
I am a sucker for '80s pop music, usually something upbeat that keeps me going at a good pace. But one of my favourite '80s artists is Sinead O'Connor.
3. Fitness tip?
110%, something I have kept with me since I was a very young age. When thoughts of giving up would enter my mind, my parents would always encourage me and tell me to give 110%!
4. What's in your fridge?
Our fridge is always bursting at the seams. Milk, cream (for coffee), yogurt, eggs and tons of fruit and vegetables, as well as leftovers, keep the fridge operating at max capacity. We have a separate fridge stocked full of refreshing beverages.
What's your guilty pleasure?
5. Livewires, a candy that my sweet tooth can not get enough of. I try to avoid buying them, as I have been known to eat the entire Costco-size box in one sitting!
