THE Winnipeg Art Gallery has commissioned a bronze cast of one of local artist Eva Stubbs' most significant works for its rooftop sculpture garden.
The WAG, which presented Stubbs' last major exhibition in 2010, will add Generation to the five pieces of hers that the gallery already possesses.
SDLqGeneration is an extraordinary work, and we are thrilled that it will be a legacy piece on the rooftop, a fitting tribute to her important body of work," says Dr. Stephen Borys, WAG director and CEO.
The Budapest-born octogenarian closed her studio this year, ending 55 years of artistic output in various mediums including bronze, wood, stone, clay and paper. Her remaining works will be on display at an exhibition in October at the Gurevich Fine Art gallery, 62 Albert St.
On Oct. 3, Gurevich Fine Art will also host a dinner to honour Stubbs' art and life. Borys and Andrew Kear, WAG curator of Canadian historical art, will offer tributes. Tickets are limited to 50 guests.
