Walrus leads magazine award noms

MONTREAL -- The Walrus, Maclean's and Toronto Life top the list with the most nominations this year for National Magazine Awards, organizers announced late Tuesday.

The Walrus has a total of 33, Maclean's has 27 and Toronto Life has 26, but none are nominated for the coveted Magazine of the Year award. That honour goes to Montreal-based arts magazine Maisonneuve, the Toronto Globe and Mail's Report On Business and Yellowknife-based Up Here. Winnipeg-based art magazine Border Crossings is nominated in the best single issue category.

Also announced Tuesday was the recipient of the Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement, Quatro Communications general manager Terry Sellwood. Sellwood is the chair of Magazines Canada and Quatro publishes Cottage Life, explore, Outdoor Canada and Canadian Home Workshop.

The awards will be announced in Toronto June 4.
