Five titles from across Canada have made the shortlist for the annual John W. Dafoe Book Prize.
The nominated books are: Let the Eastern Bastards Freeze in the Dark by Mary Janigan; Warrior Nation by Ian McKay and Jamie Swift; What We Talk About When We Talk About War, by Noah Richler; Chronic Condition by Jeffrey Simpson; and Secret Service by Reg Whitaker, Gregory S. Kealey and Andrew Parnaby.
The Winnipeg-based J.W. Dafoe Foundation made the announcement on Wednesday.
The winner will be named later in the spring and collect the award at the foundation’s annual dinner in May.
The book prize memorializes John Wesley Dafoe, editor of the Winnipeg Free Press from 1901 to 1944.
