Signy Gerrard

Manager, marketing and communications, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ

"I'm revisiting an old favourite right now -- after the recent tragedy on Mount Everest, I picked Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of The Mt. Everest Disaster off my shelf again. It's a first-hand account from writer Jon Krakauer of a 1996 storm on Everest that caused the greatest loss of life in Everest's history -- until last month. Through his eyes, you travel with a group of climbers step by step towards the summit on a journey that goes horrifyingly wrong. No matter how familiar the story is to me, I can't finish it without going through the emotional wringer."
