Winnipeg lawyer and commission counsel to the Phoenix Sinclair Inquiry
"It's a crowded night table! I just started reading the latest book by the American philosopher Martha Nussbaum, Political Emotions: Why Love Matters for Justice. Her work has been a major influence on me in both my personal and professional lives, in the way she focuses on compassion and empathy as a means to promoting social justice and respect for human dignity. I'm also reading Thomas King's The Truth About Stories. My work on the Phoenix Sinclair Inquiry highlighted for me the importance of listening to the stories people have to tell, particularly stories from the aboriginal community. I've also discovered Louise Penny's wonderful mysteries set in Quebec, starting with the first in the series: Still Life."
