"I have just finished reading Fort of Nine Towers: An Afghan Family Story by Qais Akbar Omar. I was very impressed by Omar's ability to recall his childhood days in such detail. I found it difficult to endure the vivid accounts of the terror and brutality visited upon civilians by the warring factions. But this was tempered by his interweaving of beautiful accounts of family love and tenderness along with references to Sufi poetry and wisdom."
