"My sister, knowing the bibliophile that I am in constant search of the next great read, recommended A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I had read his first novel, The Kite Runner, years ago so was pretty confident this too would be good. I certainly wasn't disappointed. This novel is once again set in Afghanistan, but this time the story is told through the eyes of generations of women. It's a look into the way Afghan women are treated and regarded. You become so invested in the lives of these women as you follow them from childhood into adulthood. But you also learn quite a bit about the history of Afghanistan from the '60s up into our day. Love, hate, war and peace -- this book has it all."
