PAPER CHASE: Texas bans children's book
THE Texas State Board of Education has banned the children's book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? from schools.
Apparently the deceased author, Bill Martin, shared the same name as that of the live author of Ethical Marxism: The Categorical Imperative of Liberation.
That was apparently enough for the board to ban the Grade 3 book.
According to news reports, no one on the board had read Ethical Marxism. However board member Pat Hardy had been told it contained "very strong critiques of capitalism and the American system."

The California school district that removed the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary from its classrooms has replaced the book.
The dictionary was removed last week after a parent complained about its sexual content. The entry on oral sex was specifically noted.
The dictionary was found in Grade 4 and 5 classrooms.
The Menifee Union School District will now send students home with permission slips. These slips will enable parents to request that their children only use a simpler dictionary.
According to the district, the dictionaries were originally purchased to allow more advanced readers to research unfamiliar words.
