LONDON -- Toronto author Sheila Heti is among the contenders for this year's Women's Prize for Fiction.

Heti's book How Should A Person Be? has made the long list of 20 candidates for the award that was previously known as the Orange Prize for Fiction.

The annual U.K. honour, now into its 18th year, celebrates writing by women in English around the world.

The winner gets Çä30,000, or about C$46,000.

Heti's competition includes Hilary Mantel's Man Booker Prize-winning novel Bring Up the Bodies.

Other nominees include previous Orange Prize winners Barbara Kingsolver for Flight Behaviour and Zadie Smith for NW.

The winner will be announced in London on June 5.
