Nicki Minaj didn't have time for costume change

Nicki Minaj "didn't have the time" for her costume change at the MTV Video Music Awards last night (08.24.14).

The 'Anaconda' singer almost suffered a wardrobe malfunction after trying to switch outfits in between songs during her show-opening performance with Jessie J and Ariana Grande, and it is said the accident wasn't unexpected.

A source told UsMagazine.com: "She could never get into that dress. During the dress rehearsal she did the number numerous times and could not make it into the dress zipped up even once.

"I've no idea why she didn't just decide to wear something else. She just didn't have the time to change from one outfit into another, there was no way."

Meanwhile, Nicki commented on the malfunction and admitted it was an "amazing" experience to help open the annual bash.

She said: "It felt amazing to open the show. We ran out of time getting the dress zipped up."

She also referred to the incident on Instagram and seemingly shrugged it off, admitting it could have been worse.

She wrote: "God is good. As long as a nipple didn't come out to play, I'm fine."
