Black Field, a locally produced "prairie Gothic romance" featuring Vampire Diaries star Sara Canning, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Friday, July 29th by Century Street Distribution.

Written and directed by Winnipegger Danishka Esterhazy, the film’s dark romantic overtones arise amid a ramshackle homestead where the relationship between two sisters (played by Canning and local actress Ferron Guerreiro) is sundered by an itinerant French-Canadian trapper (Mathieu Bourguet) who may be a wanted fugitive.

The film, shot near Tyndall, Man., was released theatrically in 2010 and is currently screening on Super Channel.

DVD extras will include a behind-the-scenes featurette titled An Element of Darkness as well as two short films by Esterhazy.
