To observe the 30th anniversary of the supernatural comedy Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman’s 1984 film and its 1989 sequel Ghostbusters II will hit select theatres Aug. 29. The special release comes in anticipation of the films’ Blu-ray debut Sept. 16.

No Winnipeg theatre has been announced, but the films are expected to be released in more than 700 locations across the U.S. and Canada.

The original film, which starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Harold Ramis, has been restored and remastered in 4K for its relaunch.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has also launched ghostbusters.com, a website promising access to hitherto unseen film clips, collectible merchandise, music, and more.
