THE city's first VIP cinema, complete with auditoriums licensed for alcoholic beverages, starts screening films to the public on Friday, Nov. 2.
Cineplex Odeon McGillivray and VIP Cinemas will open on the site of the former Cinema City near the corner of McGillivray and Kenaston, which closed four months ago for a $4.5-million renovation.
The new facility features eight traditional auditoriums, a licensed lounge, and three VIP Cinema auditoriums, the first in Manitoba.
All auditoriums were refurbished and fitted with larger screens and upgraded surround sound. The concession areas were remodelled to include TCBY frozen yogurt, Pizza Pizza and Cineplex Entertainment's proprietary hot food offering, Outtakes, in addition to the usual popcorn, pop and candy counters.
"We've created an entirely new entertainment destination that is truly first-of-its-kind in the province of Manitoba," said Cineplex vice-president Pat Marshall. "If our experience elsewhere in Canada is any guide, movie-goers are going to love this new level of entertainment."
