Directing phenom Xavier Dolan's 'Mommy' to open in Quebec in September

  • Print

MONTREAL - "Mommy," which recently won the Jury Prize at the prestigious Cannes film festival for director Xavier Dolan, will open in his home province of Quebec on Sept. 19.

The release was announced by the movie's distributor, Les Films Seville.

The movie, which stars Anne Dorval, is about a single parent dealing with her troubled son.

"Mommy" has been widely acclaimed and some critics have called it Dolan's most accomplished film to date.

The 25-year-old phenom has already cranked out four other films, also to widespread praise.

His directorial debut, 2009's "I Killed My Mother," won three awards at Cannes.

The festival also awarded him the Regards Jeunes Prize for his 2010 romantic comedy, "Heartbeats," followed by two awards in 2012 for "Laurence Anyways."
