IMAX bidding free farewell Sunday

  • Print

IMAX Winnipeg is offering four free screenings on Sunday prior to closing its doors for good.

The Portage Place cinema will show four screenings of Heartland, an original Imax documentary that the theatre opened with 25 years ago.

Sunday's showtimes are at noon, 1:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

Much of Heartland shows sweeping landscapes and thrilling action sequences, including an Imax view of a chuckwagon race.

It also includes two Royal Winnipeg Ballet stars performing at the peak of their dancing careers. Former principal dancer Evelyn Hart and soloist Andre Lewis, who has since become the company's artistic director, perform Norbert Vesak's pas-de-deux, Belong, in the film.

The theatre sustained losses mostly due to its inability to screen most Hollywood movies in Imax 3D. It also received heightened competition when an Imax theatre was opened in Silver City Polo Park.
