MONTREAL - Louis Cyr, a Quebecer once touted as the strongest man in the world, has proven to be a mighty contender at the Jutra Awards celebrating the best in the province's cinema.

Close behind, with nine, is "Gabrielle," the heartwarming story of a developmentally challenged woman that was Canada's submission for the Oscars."Le Demantelement," about the breakup of a family farm, follows with six.

"Louis Cyr," "Gabrielle" and "Le Demantelement" are up for best picture, along with "Diego Star" and "Catimini."

"Tom a la ferme" by Xavier Dolan is a finalist in the category for film most honoured outside Quebec, along with "Le Demantlement," "Gabrielle," "Inch'Allah and "Vic + Flo ont vu un ours."

The Jutra Awards, Quebec's equivalent of the Oscars, are named for renowned director Claude Jutra. They will be given out March 23.
