More stars join cast of film shooting in Winnipeg

  • Print

OSCAR-NOMINATED actor Thomas Haden Church and Emmy-winning actress Margo Martindale have joined the cast of the family feature Heaven Is for Real, currently shooting in Winnipeg with stars Greg Kinnear and Kelly Reilly.

Based on the bestseller of the same name, the movie tells the story of Colton Burpo (played by newcomer Connor Corum), a boy who emerged from a life-threatening medical crisis with a vivid description of heaven and inexplicable knowledge of events that happened before his birth.

Kinnear and Reilly play the boy's parents, Todd and Sonja Burpo. Haden Church, most memorable as a sleazy soap star on the make in the 2004 indie comedy Sideways, plays loyal family friend Jay Olsen. Martindale, who celebrated an Emmy win for her indelible portrayal of a Kentucky crime family matriarch in the 2011 season of Justified, likewise plays a supporting character.

The film, scheduled to continue shooting until Aug. 14, is directed and co-scripted by Randall Wallace (Braveheart, Secretariat) and produced by Joe Roth (Oz, The Great and Powerful) and pastor-author T.D. Jakes.

Tristar Pictures has announced the film will be released on April 16 in 2014.
