Ellis Marsalis's flight to Winnipeg was cancelled, and with that so was his scheduled Winnipeg International Jazz Festival concert tonight.
"I'm very sorry to disappoint my Winnipeg fans. I was so looking forward to returning to your great festival," Marsalis is quoted as saying in a jazz festival press release. "Unfortunately flight cancellations have made it impossible for me to make it today."
The release also said that tickets bought online or by phone through Ticketmaster will be refunded automatically within 7-10 days. Tickets bought by phone through Jazz Winnipeg will be refunded automatically by the end of the weekend. Tickets bought in person at Jazz Winnipeg can be refunded at point-of-sale.
The New Orleans pianist is the patriarch of the Marsalis jazz family that includes trumpeter Wynton, saxophonist Branford and trombonist Delfeayo and drummer Jason.
The festival continues through the weekend with headline acts John Legend and St. Vincent performing at the Burton Cummings Theatre Saturday and Sunday respectively.
