Paid attendance at the Winnipeg Folk Festival has dropped sharply from 2013, when the event celebrated its 40th anniversary.
On Monday, the festival announced a five-day cumulative attendance of 44,222 for the 41st edition of the event, which wrapped up on Sunday in Birds Hill Park. That works out to an average of 8,844 paying customers a day, down 22 per cent from last year.
In 2013, the festival’s cumulative attendance was 57,034, or 11,407 paying customers per day.
The festival set an attendance record in 2011 with a cumulative total of 59,553 visits, or 11,910 paying customers per day.
This past weekend was marred by cool weather. Sunday’s high of 15.7 C matched the record for the coolest daytime high on a July 13 in Winnipeg.
